What Is The Best Hotel On The LAS VEGAS STRIP??

My fiance and I are planning on travelling to Las Vegas next Dec/Jan (for the new year 08/09) to celebrate us being together 10 years.I was just wondering what hotel people would recommend. We would like a hotel preferably in the centre of the strip so we are close to other amenities and not miles out of the way. We will both be 25 and will be leaving the children with grandparents so a lively hotel is not a problem. If im honest I would rather stay in a basic/nice/clean hotel and have more money to spend out there than to stay in a big swanky hotel, feel totally out of place and have hardly any money to spend.Regardless of what hotel you stay in, can you still use/visit the other hotels to use their amenities eg. shows at bellagio, casino at planet hollywood, shops at newyork newyork etc.. or are you confined to your hotel..How close are the hotels to each other?? Can u walk up/down the strip?I dont mind a walk but id rather be within reasonable distance between them.xxx

yes you can visit other hotels and use other casinos, see their shows etc.
if you want a really good hotel thats not too expensive then MGM grand or the Venetian are your best choice.

I recommend seeing the Fountains at the Bellagio, show at Treasure Island, the volcano at the Mirage and the light show downtown. If you want to see some shows check out Tix for Tonight (I think that is what it is called). You can get discounted prices. I was impressed with the money we saved on some of our shows. we stayed at the luxor, which is towards the airport end, and is ok.
for a value (price/location) place to stay that meets your criteria try flamingo, harrahs, ballys.most hotels on the strip are "big swanky".
hot walking up and down the strip.we went in 04, for new years....stay down town,the strip is insane on nyrseeve....we talked to some folks on new years day..
you can definitely use the facilities at the other hotels.

december/january is a great time to come because there aren't as many tourists and the weather is actually tolerable.

There are buses but with traffic they are the long way. The new monorail seems to go behind the hotels so not good for views. Lots of the bar shows are great so you might find you don't get to see a real show. There are shops in lots of hotels and I think Vegas is as good a place as anywhere in US for bargains.
